తెలుగుజాతి ఎంతో క్లిష్టమైన సమస్యను ఎదురుకుంటుంది. ఒకనాడు భాష ప్రాతిపదిక మీద రాష్ట్రాలను ఏర్పాటు చెయ్యడానికి తెలుగుజాతి కారణమైంది. అది దేశానికి ఎంత మేలు చేసిందో చెప్పనకరలేదు. ఈరోజు రాక్షస శక్తులు మన రాష్ట్రాన్ని ముక్కలుగా చేసి, ప్రజలను విడతీసి, తెలుగుజాతిని మల్లి చీకటి యుగాలలోకి తోసేయడానికి ప్రయత్నిస్తున్నాయి. ఇది తెలుగుజాతికి ఒక పరిక్ష. విద్రోహ శక్తులను దైర్యంగా ఎదురుకుని, సమైక్యంగా ఉందామని కటినమైన నిర్ణయం తీసుకుంటే మనజాతికి భవిషత్తు వుంటుంది. ఈ ఒక్కసారి మనం ఎంత కష్టంలోనైనా కటినమైన నిర్ణయం తీసుకోగలము అని నిరుపించగాలిగితే, మనకు వున్నా వేరే సమస్యలన్నిటిని అదే విదంగా ఎదురుకోగలుగుతాం. లేకపోతె ఎవడు మందిని పోగుచేయ్యగాలిగితే వాడిదే రాజ్యం.

ఎన్నో రోజుల తరవాత మల్లి బ్లాగ్గింగ్ మోదులుపెట్టాను. నిజం చెప్పాలంటే రాయడానికి సంతోష కరమైన ఆలోచనలు ఏమీలేవు. ప్రపంచంలో జరుగుతున్న అరాచకం, అవినీతి, అన్యాయం, తగ్గిపోతున్న విలువలు చూస్తుంటే ఎంతో బాదగా వుంది. ఈలోకం ఎక్కడికి వెళ్తుంది, అమాయక ప్రజలు ఎందుకు ఇన్ని కష్టాలు పడాలి, అసలు దేవుడికి పిచ్చిగానీ పట్టిందా ననిపిన్స్తుంది.

ఈ లోకంలో అన్నాయం గురించి దేవుణ్ణి ప్రేస్నించినప్పుడు ఒక ఆలోచన కలుగుతుంది. నిజానికి దేవుడు నాకు మచి జీవితం ఇచ్చాడు. మంచి కుటుంబం, వుద్యోగం, ఆరోగ్యం అన్ని ఇచ్చాడు. మరి దేవుడు తన మిగితా శ్రుస్టితో ఏమిచేస్తాడో తన ఇష్టం కాదా. నాకు దాని గురించి అడిగే అధికారం వుందా? నాకేమైనా లోటు జరిగితే అడగాలికనే, అన్ని ఇచ్చినప్పుడు గూడా దేవుడిని ఎందుకు ప్రస్నించాలి అని అనిపిస్తుంది. అది ఫిలోసోఫి. దానికి సమాదానం వుండదు.

Loosly translated: Fearing obstables the wrost kind of men do not start. The middle kind start but give up when faced with obstacles. But the best kind of men face all the obstacles and acheive the goal.

Lakshmana Kavi wrote this famous Telugu poem during the 18th century. I came accross it on the internet. As soon as I read the first two words I remembered the poem. The words "ఆరంభింపరు నీచమానవులు" (translated: they do not start, the terrible men) are extremely strong and hard hitting words. They get imprinted in your barin as soon as you hear them. I guess that is one of the qualities of good poetry.

I love Hiphop music because lyrics have a very important place in it. I love songs with good lyrics, Telugu or English. Nothing can stir me more than good poetry set to a beat or tune. What makes Hiphop really good is it has no censorhip, so rappers enjoy a lot of freedom with their vocabulary, targets and subjects. And unlike Indian music, which is totally dependent on the context set by the movie they are in (which are mostly love stories), Hiphop artists have the freedom to set their own context which allows them to deal with a whole range of topics. Like our jaanapada songs, HipHop comes from the bottom of the society and not from the elites with phds in literature. Hence inspite of the sophitication in lyrics, it stills connects with the masses.

A lot of people are prejudiced against Hiphop, viewing it as sleazy and offensive. I feel part of it comes from rasicm since most Hiphop artists are black. But it is also because of not being able to connect to it. And Hiphop music is definitely not the first to talk about sex, alcohol, drugs, money and fights. A lot of highly regarded classical litreature around the world and esspecially in India have plenty of erotic content. Folk songs have been employed throughout history to protest and fight. So there is really nothing negative about Hiphop culturally.
